Hatcher: Dallas Gave No Indication They Wanted Me Back

Jason Hatcher signed with the Washington Redskins on Thursday

Defensive tackle Jason Hatcher never made any secret of the fact that he intended on going to the highest bidder in free agency. As it turns out, the highest bidder was the Washington Redskins, who signed Hatcher to a four-year, $27.5 million deal on Thursday.

Hatcher departing is no surprise, as the Cowboys went into free agency firmly against the cap (like they always do). What is kind of surprising is that according to Hatcher, the Cowboys didn’t give him any indication that they’d like to keep him around.

They didn’t show no signs that they wanted me back,” Hatcher told 105.3-FM The Fan’s Ben & Skin, via the Dallas Morning News. “I know the fans are upset. They should be. They have all the right in the world to be. But I made the right decision for me. If we could’ve made it work out we would’ve, but I’m in a great place with the Redskins, a great organization. I’m looking forward to getting back to football.”

Hatcher--who recorded 11 sacks in 2013 on the way to his first career Pro Bowl appearance--doesn’t hold any ill will toward Dallas, however.

“I just left a great organization,” Hatcher said. “I really appreciate what Jerry Jones and his family did for me. The fans have always been behind me. Things change and you just got to take it in stride, take it all in and get back to playing football.”
