Gregory Looking to Bulk Up a Bit Before Rookie Season

The Cowboys selected defensive end Randy Gregory with the 60th pick in last weekend's draft

Cowboys second round pick Randy Gregory wants to put on some weight in preparation for his first season as an NFL defensive end, and he doesn’t think he’ll have any problem getting up to his desired weight. The hard part, Gregory says, will be keeping that weight up throughout a grueling NFL season.

"The average I've been is 258, 259 and I felt like I was in the best shape I've ever been in my life," Gregory said, per Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas. "Right now I'm sitting around 240, 241 and I am continuing to get bigger. I actually put on weight pretty quick. That is not the hard thing. One of the main things is trying to maintain that weight throughout the course of a season."

The Cowboys don’t think Gregory needs to undergo any dramatic physical transformation to be an effective pass rusher.

“One of the things that is most impressive about him is that he just never quits,” said Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. “He's just absolutely got a you-can't-stop-me attitude about it and he will keep those feet, he will keep everything moving. That probably, couple that with real unique physical talent, that's rare. He has rare ability.”
