Garrett: “I Have a Great Deal of Affection” For Ryan

Rob Ryan served as the Cowboys defensive coordinator from 2011-2012

Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett says he and Rob Ryan have maintained a relationship since Ryan was dismissed as the Dallas defensive coordinator back in January.

Ryan was Garrett’s defensive coordinator for his first two full seasons as head coach, but was fired, the team said, because his defenses didn’t force enough turnovers. He was hired by the New Orleans Saints in February and will face Garrett and his old team on Sunday night at the Superdome.

Oh, it’s ongoing,” Garrett said of his relationship with Ryan, per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “It’s an ongoing relationship. I have a great deal of respect for Rob as a coach and as a person. I have a great deal of affection for him, and for everything he did when he was here for the couple of years as our defensive coordinator. He and I have spoken and stayed in touch. He’s a great guy, and I just can’t thank him enough.”

Through nine weeks under Ryan, the Saints rank in the top ten in total defense and in the top five in scoring defense.
