With a year of experience under his belt, Cowboys center Travis Frederick is approaching his second NFL training camp quite differently than he did as a rookie a year ago.
Having played a year in the offense, Frederick is freed up to focus on the finer points--technique, reading the defense and so forth. This is, of course, just the next step for Frederick, who was a widely criticized selection at 31st overall last year but went on to prove those many critics wrong. He was named to the All-Rookie Team and helped anchor a resurgent Cowboys line that proved to be one of the few bright spots to speak of.
“I think it’s just a different approach,” Frederick told Nick Eatman of the team’s official website. “Last year going into camp ... I kind of knew what was going on but it was about going and making sure you know how to make all the calls and knew all the plays and being in the right spot, basically.
“Now I think the mindset has changed a little bit, where my focus is more on small technique things and seeing maybe a little bit more of the defense or placing my hands in a different spot. So I think it’s really been narrowed down as far as what my focus is.”
