Frank Walker Familiar With Ryan Defenses

With the cornerback position pretty much depleted by injury, the Dallas Cowboys are hoping veteran Frank Walker can contribute immediately, an effort that will be helped by Walker’s familiarity with another Ryan defense. Walker spent 2008 and 2009 with the Ravens; in 2008, his defensive coordinator was Rex Ryan, brother of Cowboys’ defensive coordinator Rob Ryan.

"Well, playing for his brother pretty much things are the same," Walker said, per ESPN Dallas. "A lot of different terminology, so basically I have to study a lot and learn fast and pick up on a lot of terminology, but other than that I should be all right."

Walker was signed after a short workout on Tuesday, after it was confirmed that Orlando Scandrick would miss 3-4 weeks with a high ankle sprain. He spent the 2010 season with the Minnesota Vikings, and was among the Tennessee Titans’ final cuts after training camp.

"The situation in Tennessee didn't work out, " Walker said. "I already knew the scouts there and my coaches there said, 'You played excellent, we don't know what it is.' Coach [John] Harbaugh called me, a bunch of scouts from Baltimore called me and said, 'You'll be picked up guaranteed next week.' And Dallas called, Carolina called, and Tennessee. I spoke with some people at Tennessee also."
