Former Cowboy Andre Gurode Signs With Bears

Gurode made five Pro Bowls in nine seasons with the Cowboys

In a response to the injury bug hitting their offensive line, the Chicago Bears announced Tuesday that they have signed guard/center Andre Gurode, a former Pro Bowler with the Dallas Cowboys.

Gurode was a second round pick of the Cowboys back in 2002, and spent nine seasons with the team before being released after 2010, a span that saw the Colorado product named to two All-Pro teams (2007, 2009). He picked up with the Baltimore Ravens in 2011, where he served as a reserve and was out of football in 2012 until the Bears called this week.

Bears’ right guard Lance Louis suffered a torn ACL in last week’s victory over the Vikings and was sent to the injured reserve this week. Left guard Chris Spencer was injured in that game as well, but his injury was less serious than Louis’s.

Gurode told the Chicago Tribune that he was unsure what role he would play with Chicago.

No one has said anything to me yet about what my role is supposed to be,” he said. “I am just excited to be with the franchise.”
