First Look at the New Dallas Cowboys Headquarters

Texas is a land of football and big ideas and one of the biggest yet is under construction just up the Tollway in Frisco.

NBC 5 was given exclusive, unprecedented access by the Dallas Cowboys to tour their new headquarters in Frisco called -- "The Star in Frisco."

The complex sits on 91 acres and has a $300 million price tag. Charlotte Jones Anderson is the Chief Brand Officer for the Dallas Cowboys and the daughter of the team's owner, Jerry Jones. She said the project is 60 percent complete but there are still a lot of decisions to be made.

The headquarters boasts three football fields and a six-story global headquarters. The clock is ticking on an August 2016 opening.

Anderson started the tour at the indoor practice field. "For the first time, Meredith, you are walking on our plaza, which is the lead in to the Ford Center," Anderson said. "If you can imagine, this will be covered in a football field."

It will be a field the Cowboys will share with Frisco high school teams.

"On Friday night, coming down Star Boulevard, imagine a high school band from each opposing team marching through here and right in the middle of this," said Anderson. "There's a giant video board. We're known for our video."

The indoor field will somewhat resemble the team's home in Arlington. "When you walk in, the bowl is sunk in, just like AT&T Stadium," Anderson said.

The Ford Center at The Star seats 12,000 people. The field will have NFL and UIL markings so that both the Cowboys and high school football teams can be play here.

"I think that synergy between the two, it certainly doesn't exist anywhere. I am certain that it will be aspirational for many who get to be a part of the Frisco system," Anderson said. The 12 steel arches that make up the roof recently went in, a monumental architecture achievement.

The Cowboys locker room is one of the largest spaces on the compound. One building over are the executive offices, where Jerry Jones will be able to look out of his office window at two horizontal practice fields.

Jones has kicked in close to $163 million from the Cowboys for the complex. Anderson laughs when asked what her father thinks of the new headquarters.

"I don't know what he says except, probably, 'There goes the money.' But I think when you look out here, you can't help but be proud of what we were able to do," Anderson said.

The indoor practice field will open to eight Frisco ISD high school football teams for a tournament the weekend of Aug. 26, 2016.
