Felix's Role Will Grow, But Starting Job is Barber's

Felix Jones had nearly three times as many carries as Marion Barber in last Sunday’s loss to the Tennessee Titans, but this isn’t an indication that Barber will lose his designation as starter. The team is intent on trotting Barber out for the first play of the game each week, in a great effort to not rock the boat, whether or not Barber’s role is diminishing significantly.

Why?

"Because he is the starter," Phillips said, per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "I think it’s important he’s in there. He’s been the guy, and I think he still is."

This after Phillips stated his desire to get Jones the ball even more--and this after a game that saw Jones receive a career-high 19 touches. So, Jones will be the featured back and, we can only assume, see a lot more touches than Barber from week to week. But Barber remains the starter de jure, for some reason.

It’s not backward thinking. It’s Dallas Cowboys football in 2010. And Wade Phillips is just glad to have both runners on the roster. Oh, and Tashard Choice (who had no touches last week) as well.

"I think they’re both really good backs," Phillips said. "We’re glad we’ve got both of them. We’re glad we’ve got all three of them. None of that has changed."
