Fantasy Land: Studs and Duds, Week 5

A two-time champion in a hardcore keeper league, including some know-it-all media "experts", Adam Boedeker gives his fantasy expertise on a weekly basis.

Stud of the Week

Philip Rivers, QB, SD — Rivers has been a fantasy owners' headache for a couple of years now. He has all the qualities of a certified gunslinger but routinely came up short a year ago. So far this year, he's been pretty good, but not great. This week, that will all change. Why, you ask? Because Rivers faces the worst defense in football in the New Orleans Saints, who have allowed multiple touchdowns to opposing quarterbacks in all but one of their games this year. Get him in your lineup.

Honorable mention: Andy Dalton, CIN (vs. MIA); Reggie Bush, MIA (at CIN); Domenik Hixon, NYG (vs. CLE).

Dud of the Week

Kevin Kolb, QB, ARI — Surprisingly enough, Kolb has turned into a viable fantasy starter over the past few weeks since taking over for the injured John Skelton. He definitely has weapons at his disposal, most notably Larry Fitzgerald. This week, though, he will face a tough Rams secondary that is led by physical cornerback Courtland Finnegan, who will most likely man up with Fitzgerald and give him some trouble.  The Rams are also aggressive and like to pick off balls. Looks out, Kolb owners.

Honorable mention: Chris Johnson, TEN (at MIN); Pierre Garcon, WAS (vs. ATL); Michael Crabtree, SF (vs. BUF).
