Ex-Cowboy Terence Newman Named NFC's Defensive PoW at 37

It’s been over five years since the Dallas Cowboys released veteran cornerback and former fifth overall pick Terence Newman in a salary cap move after nine seasons with the team, but Newman is still going strong, now in his first year with the Minnesota Vikings.

Newman, 37, was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week this week for his two-interception performance in a Vikings win over the Raiders. The second of those two interceptions came in the end zone with a little over two minutes remaining, to effectively end the Raiders' comeback bid.

The last time Newman won the award was in Week 15 of his rookie season with the Cowboys, in 2003.

Newman reunited with former Cowboys defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, who he also joined in Cincinnati after his release from Dallas, in Minnesota this year. On the season, he has 35 tackles, the two interceptions and eight passes broken up.
