Escobar Injury Presents Late Season Opportunity for Geoff Swaim

Swaim was drafted out of Texas in the seventh round last May

With Gavin Escobar headed to injured reserve with a torn achilles, rookie tight end Geoff Swaim has an opportunity to make an impression on the staff in the final two games of 2015.

Obviously, Swaim is happy for the opportunity. But he wishes it wouldn’t have come as the result of a teammate’s misfortune.

You never want to see any of your teammates get hurt, ever,” Swaim told the team’s official website.

A seventh round pick out of Texas last May, Swaim impressed enough in the preseason to earn a roster spot, but his last appearance in a game came in Week 5. He’s been inactive since, but head coach Jason Garrett likes a lot about the former Longhorn.

“He’s a young tight end. But he has a lot of different traits that make you feel like he could be a complete tight end,” Garrett said. “He did a good job blocking in training camp and showed he could run routes and catch the ball. He plays with a physicalness and aggressiveness, so it’ll be a good opportunity for him to get out there and play and be a part of this.”
