If Emmitt Smith were Jerry Jones, he’d pay DeMarco Murray to keep him in blue and silver in 2015 and beyond.

The NFL’s All-Time Leading Rusher, who saw Murray break his single-season franchise rushing record in 2014 as he piled up 1,845 yards, believes Murray’s presence helped the Cowboys get back to a winning formula on offense--a balanced attack similar to the one the team used when they were winning Super Bowls in the 1990s.

Smith heaped the praise on Murray in an appearance at a PenFed Credit Union charity event on Tuesday, benefiting Toys for Tots and Home for Our Troops.

I thought DeMarco had a phenomenal season,” Smith said, per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “What I appreciated more about it and what I’ve seen in recent years was the commitment to the balance. That right there was so pleasing. It gave me the feeling of the days of old. I think everybody sensed that feeling, which is a wonderful thing.

“It says this is the way the Dallas Cowboys will be consistent, it’s the way that the Dallas Cowboys will win a lot of games and this is the winning formula for this organization. That, to me, is the hallmark of who the Dallas Cowboys organization should be.”
