Fans of the New Orleans Saints won’t soon forget the night Drew Brees threw his 400th career touchdown pass. Neither will Cowboys fans, but for entirely different reasons.

Brees saved the milestone for the second play of overtime on Sunday night, when he hit C.J. Spiller on a wheel route and watched him go 80 yards for the game-winning touchdown. For Cowboys, it was an ugly end to an ugly night of football. For the Saints, it was a fun milestone on top a desperately needed victory, their first at home in their last seven games.

I was aware of it,” Brees told the team’s official website after the 26-20 win. “You try to tune a lot of stuff out, but kind of like the passing record back in 2011, you hear guys whispering, and then somebody kind of makes the mistake, just like in a dugout when somebody’s got a no-hitter, saying ‘Hey, did you know that it’s the seventh inning and they don’t have a hit on you?’ I guess I was aware of it, and just kind of made that part of my thought process.

“I knew we were going to out there and win this game. Right when the play call came in out of Sean Payton’s mouth for C.J., I thought ‘This was it. This one is going the distance.’”
