Doug Free Has Ankle Surgery

Free is expected to be ready for the Cowboys' offseason conditioning program

Dallas Cowboys right tackle Doug Free underwent ankle surgery recently, but according to a report by David Moore of the Dallas Morning News on Monday, he will return in time to participate in the Cowboys’ offseason conditioning program.

Free is the second Cowboy to have surgery in the last week, the other being receiver/return man Dwayne Harris, who underwent a procedure on his shoulder. Aside from that, defensive end DeMarcus Ware said shortly after the season that he’d have surgery on his elbow, but whether that will actually happen is now unclear.

After playing so poorly in 2011 and 2012 that he was encouraged to take a pay cut last offseason, Free bounced back in 2013, helping the offensive line--along with rookie center Travis Frederick, the still-improving Tyron Smith, et al--to their best season in recent memory.
