Doug Free Could Be Moving Positions Again

Free moved from left tackle to right tackle last year

As Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said last week, the team has yet to make a decision on the future of the high-priced, underachieving right tackle Doug Free, a man that many assumed would be cut after a rough 2012. But even if he stays put in Dallas, Free might find himself on the move in 2013.

Jones said this week that the team would consider moving Free to a different position, presumably on the inside (we’re assuming the Cowboys aren’t about to uproot wunderkind Tyron Smith at left tackle).

“We’re looking at it,”
Jones said, per ESPN Dallas. “We’re going to un-turn every stone to get better. I wouldn’t rule him out at tackle either. He’s a pretty versatile guy. He’s smart.”

It would be Free’s second position move in as many offseasons, if it happens. He played the 2011 season at left tackle, before moving to the right in 2012 to make room for the aforementioned Smith.
