Dez Bryant Open to Returning Punts, If Cowboys Ask

The loss of Dwayne Harris has the Cowboys looking for a punt returner in camp

With the loss of Dwayne Harris to the New York Giants in free agency this offseason, the Dallas Cowboys are looking for a punt returner. Whether they’ll seriously consider Dez Bryant as an option, we don’t know, but Bryant made it clear this week that he’s open to the idea.

“Oh man, if they put me back there, I’m going to get back there,” Bryant said, per the Dallas Morning News.

Bryant used to return punts for the Cowboys, but hasn’t since 2012. When asked about using the All-Pro receiver as a punt returner this week, head coach Jason Garrett didn’t sound 100 percent onboard with the idea, but didn’t close the door on it, either.

“He really likes doing it and he certainly has some game-breaking ability,” Garrett said. “Typically when you have a guy like that you want to keep him on one side of the ball or the other, but he is one of those guys you want to put back there and keep him in your back pocket if you need him.”
