A day after the heartbreaking 51-48 home loss to the Broncos, Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant offered a lengthy defense of quarterback Tony Romo, who has been weathering a predictably large wave of criticism after throwing the late interception that set Denver up for their game-winning field goal.

“Radio, whoever, they’re going to do what they’re going to do. As long as we know who Romo is in this locker room, he don’t care, and that’s the only thing that matters,” Bryant said, per the Dallas Morning News. “He doesn’t care what nobody else says. As long as he knows that we got his back, that’s the only thing that matters. The performance that he had yesterday, it was outstanding. I think that’s probably one of the best games that he’s ever played. All he can do and all we can do is get better, from that performance.”

In fairness, Romo was historically good on Sunday, fourth quarter interception notwithstanding. He went 25 of 36 for a franchise record 506 yards and a franchise record-tying five touchdown passes.

“In my eyes, Romo’s a fighter,” Bryant said. “I don’t think no quarterback in the NFL takes as much criticism as he takes. And he still goes out there and acts like he hasn’t heard anything. I know he hear it but he doesn’t let it get to him. He goes out there and performs the best way he possibly can. And we’re going to forever back him for it.”
