Deion Sanders Says He Always Had Gay Teammates

Sanders came out in public support of Michael Sam this week

Former Cowboy and Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders came out in support of Michael Sam’s decision to come out as gay this week, but added that in his experience, there have always been gay players in the NFL.

Sanders’ comments came during an appearance on The Arsenio Hall Show this week.

“I don’t condone or condemn, but I’m going to love him,” Sanders said of Sam, via the Dallas Morning News. “He’s not the first gay guy in the NFL. He’s the first one to come out. Let’s get that straight.”

Sanders went so far as to say that over his 14 career, he never played for a team that didn’t have a gay player on the roster.

“We always knew,” Sanders said. “But he was cool. That was our boy. We had to look out for him.”
