The reaction in Dallas to Orlando Scandrick being rewarded with a five-year, $26 million deal on Wednesday was pretty well split. Some folks were mad (“Why would you pay that kind of money to a backup?! Aaaargh!). Some folks were happy (“Hey, he’s been having a great camp. Kudos to him!). And some folks, who don’t follow the Cowboys, were indifferent (“Who the H is Orlando Scandrick?).
Anyway, the reaction at Valley Ranch was decidedly more uniform. The Double J is a Scandrick fan. Rob Ryan is a Scandrick fan. And secondary coach Dave Campo, as evidenced by his remarks on Wednesday evening, is a pretty big Scandrick fan.
"I'm happy for him," said Campo, per the Dallas Morning News. "He deserves it. He's a good player and a good person more than that. Orlando has come in and done an outstanding job for us over the years and I think he deserves exactly what he got.
"He's always played with a little chip on his shoulder because of where he was picked and I'm glad he was overlooked because we got him. I think he's one of the better inside nickel players in the league and that's an extremely important position. This camp he's demonstrated he can go outside and be a full-time guy no matter what. The guy is a very valuable member of our football team."
