DT Chris Whaley Suffers Torn Achilles

Whaley missed all of last season with a torn ACL

Second-year defensive tackle Chris Whaley’s time with the Cowboys could be coming to a close.

Whaley, who was already far from a lock to make the final roster, suffered a torn Achilles in Monday’s afternoon practice session. Whaley will head back to Dallas and undergo surgery this week. It is the first major injury of the Cowboys’ 2015 training camp.

This is just more hard luck for the former University of Texas standout, who missed what would have been his rookie season last year with the lingering effects of a torn ACL suffered while with the Longhorns.

It’s not yet clear whether the Cowboys will look to bring in another defensive tackle to add some depth at that spot.
