Cowboys Will Look at Both the Draft, Free Agent Market for QB Help

The Cowboys own the fourth overall pick in the upcoming draft

To hear Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones tell it, there’s a pretty good chance the team will both address the backup quarterback position in the short term with a veteran and draft a quarterback of the future this offseason.

Jones was asked the question during an appearance on the Intentional Grounding show on 1310-AM The Ticket this week: With the Cowboys in obvious need of backup quarterback help and with their franchise quarterback about to turn 36, will the Cowboys be looking at the veterans available on the free agent market, or the young quarterbacks in the draft?

"Both," Jones said, per the Dallas Morning News. "I think we do want to have a veteran quarterback we feel good about. And it's not going to be any secret if there is a good, young quarterback—and who is to say what round that will come in—we need to start looking for a young guy as well.

"After what we went through this year, I think both is the right answer there."
