Cowboys Waive RB Ryan Williams

Williams never appeared in a regular season game for the Cowboys

After about a year, the Dallas Cowboys have decided to part ways with running back Ryan Williams.

Williams was waived by the team on Tuesday before they got on a charter plane to go to Oxnard, CA for the beginning of training camp, along with linebacker Cameron Lawrence and offensive lineman Ryan Miller. The team added undrafted running back Gus Johnson out of Stephen F. Austin, linebacker Justin Anderson and offensive lineman Ronald Patrick.

Drafted by the Cardinals in the second round of the draft in 2011, Williams’ career to this point has been plagued by injuries. He had appeared in only five games in the NFL when the Cowboys signed him last May, and he never added to that total with Dallas, spending last year on the practice squad. He did lead the team in rushing last year in the preseason.

According to Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas, Williams underwent knee surgery last month after the final minicamp of the offseason, making it all the more unlikely that he would have made the team out of camp.
