Cowboys Trail Chargers 10-7, at Half

The Cowboys are now 30 minutes into the 2014 preseason

Thirty minutes into the preseason, the Dallas Cowboys trail the San Diego Chargers, 10-7, at half.

Among those sitting out this game for Dallas are Tony Romo, Dez Bryant, DeMarco Murray and Lance Dunbar on the offensive side, and Brandon Carr, Morris Claiborne, Barry Church and Henry Melton on the defensive side.

New backup Brandon Weeden started, played the entire half, and posted solid numbers, going 13/17 passing for 107 yards and a touchdown. Weeden gave Dallas the first touchdown of the game on a rolling pass to James Hanna in the back of the end zone for a 7-0 lead.

Second-year reserve running back Joseph Randle has looked good as well, with 50 yards on 13 carries.

The defense, on the other hand, hasn’t looked so good--which is understandable given that the unit is comprised almost exclusively of reserves tonight. That said, the Chargers reached the red zone on all three of their first half drives, and rather easily, at that.

On the first drive, Chargers running back Ryan Mathews fumbled at the goal line, but Dallas wouldn’t be so lucky the next time around. Branden Oliver scored on a 16-yard dash in the second quarter to tie it up and the Chargers would kick a field goal on their next drive--after Dallas made a nice goal line stand, just about the only positive of the half for the defense--to take the lead, 10-7.

The Chargers are a perfect 7-7 passing for 110 yards, and have 111 rushing yards at the half.
