If you were just a little late in turning on the Dallas Cowboys’ preseason matchup with the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night, you probably missed Tony Romo’s preseason debut. Romo’s night consisted of two handoffs to Darren McFadden and a screen pass to Lance Dunbar.
That was it.
“It’s disappointing," Romo said after the 49ers ran away with the contest 23-6, per the Dallas Morning News. “They were ready to go and took it to us. Obviously I would have liked to have played and been involved in the game more, but it’s preseason and we’ve got to look at some guys.”
Head coach Jason Garrett said afterward that limiting Romo to one series was the plan all along. Do the Cowboys wish his series had lasted longer? Of course. But they weren’t going to change the plan when it didn’t.
“We just wanted to get him some reps early on in the game, hopefully convert a third down, get a little drive going,” Garrett said. “We just thought it was best to have him play one series.”
