Cowboys Sign DT David Irving Off Chiefs Practice Squad

The Dallas Cowboys did some shuffling along the defensive line this week, signing David Irving off the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice squad on Tuesday, a day after they released defensive tackle Davon Coleman. They also released practice squad tackle Ronald Patrick, and re-signed defensive end Lavar Edwards.

An Iowa State product, Irving went undrafted in 2015 but was signed by the Chiefs, who thought enough of him that, when time came for final cuts, they decided they wanted to hang onto him and assigned him to their practice squad.

Which brings us to this week when, in desperate need of defensive line help, the Cowboys made their move to acquire the 6-foot-7, 273 pounder. Per league rules, he has to be placed on the active roster for at least three weeks.

In his college career, Irving recorded 44 tackles including 7.5 for a loss, three sacks and an interception, which he ran back for a touchdown.
