Cowboys' Rookie Underwhelmed By Goodell, Smith At Rookie Symposium

Dallas Cowboys’ fourth round pick David Arkin, an offensive lineman out of Missouri State, was among those in attendance at the NFLPA-hosted Rookie Symposium last week, and though he said he learned from the experience, he left underwhelmed by the much-publicized appearances of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and NFLPA Executive Director DeMaurice Smith.

“I thought we would learn more about what’s going on behind the scenes,” Arkin said, per the News-Leader, “but really didn’t.

Of course, the experience wasn’t an altogether wash. Arkin said that former Jets and Chiefs head coach Herm Edwards and recently-freed receiver Plaxico Burress each delivered stirring speeches to the rookies, who are currently waiting for their rookie seasons to get under way.

“Edwards brought great energy to the room,” Arkin said. “Things he said made a lot of sense. Burress was real open about his mistakes. He owned up to them.”
