Cowboys' Randy Gregory Headed to Treatment Facility Instead of Training Camp

Defensive end to miss the start of training camp, NFL insider Adam Schefter says

NFL Insider Adam Schefter says Cowboys pass rusher Randy Gregory is headed to a drug treatment facility after another violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy.

Schefter tweeted the news Tuesday afternoon, saying Gregory is facing a longer suspension and is not expected to report to training camp this week.

Head coach Jason Garrett told NBC 5 Tuesday he didn’t want to comment on the matter.

Gregory was to spend the first four games of the NFL season on the bench after violating the league's substance abuse policy. He was going to be allowed to participate in camp and during preseason games, but since he's headed to a treatment facility it's not clear how much work he'll get before the season begins Sept. 11.

Team owner Jerry Jones said earlier this month the Cowboys' defense was facing a big challenge with Gregory out for four games, defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence out for four games and linebacker Rolando McClain out for 10 games -- all for substance abuse violations.

The Cowboys open camp in Oxnard, California July 30.  The season starts Sept. 11 against the New York Giants.
