With the 2014 season in the rear-view, let's look back at how the Cowboys did on a position-by-position basis. We'll look at starters and contributors, not every last man on the roster.
Grade: B+
2014 stats: Jason Witten had 64 catches for 703 yards and five touchdowns, and Gavin Escobar added four more touchdown catches despite disappearing late in the season. James Hanna was used as a blocker in two-tight sets.
Witten had a very average year by his standards, but he deferred to the Cowboys' new identity of running DeMarco Murray 25 times a game and Tony Romo throwing it 20 times instead of 35. But he was huge down the stretch and in the postseason on key conversion downs, and really kept the Cowboys alive in that Lions playoff game even though that'll be forgotten in favor of the no-call pass interference on Anthony Hitchens.
Witten isn't the receiver he was 10 years ago, but he is such a solid veteran and is still one of the best tight ends in the game, and without debate, the best all-around true tight end in the game before the advent of wide receivers playing on the line like Rob Gronkowski and Jimmy Graham.
