Cowboys Pick Up QB Rudy Carpenter

Carpenter was originally signed by Dallas as an undrafted free agent in 2009

The Dallas Cowboys have claimed backup quarterback and former practice squad member Rudy Carpenter off waivers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Dallas Morning News reported last week.

Carpenter was originally picked up by Dallas as an undrafted free agent out of Arizona State in 2009. He was among the final cuts in camp that season, but found a spot on the team’s practice squad. From there, Carpenter was added to Tampa Bay’s active roster later that season, and has been there ever since.

However, Carpenter has appeared in just one game for the Bucs, and has yet to throw an official NFL pass. He will compete with Stephen McGee for the third quarterback job, behind Tony Romo and Kyle Orton.
