The Dallas Morning News has reported that Hall of Fame guard Bruce Matthews interviewed with the Cowboys at Valley Ranch on Monday for a role assisting offensive line coach Hudson Houck. Houck and Matthews are quite familiar with each other, as the former coached USC’s offensive line when Matthews was there in the early 1980s.
After USC, Matthews went on to a prolific career with the Houston Oilers, Tennessee Oilers, and finally, the Tennessee Titans. A 14-time Pro Bowler and nine-time first team All-Pro, Matthews was inducted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2007. He was also named to the NFL’s All-Decade Team for the 1990s.
Matthews has spent the past two seasons in Houston, as an assistant and consultant on player evaluation and game preparation.
