Cowboys Hold First Players-Only Workout

Details are purposefully sparse, but the Dallas Cowboys reportedly held their first team workout of the offseason on Tuesday, at an undisclosed location in the DFW area.

There’s no way to tell how many Cowboys attended, or what the session entailed, but the workout, led by quarterback Tony Romo, tight end Jason Witten and outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware, was apparently fairly grueling. Safety Barry Church called the session a “great team workout” on Twitter, and offensive tackle Sam Young told his Twitter followers he was “tired today.”

To be sure, it’s good to see the Cowboys getting together for offseason workouts during the lockout-- the team’s “voluntary” offseason workout program would have begun last month had a CBA been in place--but it isn’t surprising either.

Romo discussed the idea of organizing workouts during the lockout as early as last season, and Witten has gone into even greater detail about the workouts, and the need for workouts.

"We have to do that as a group, work out,'' Witten said recently, per the Dallas Morning News. "You can't just go to training camp without having done any work. It's going to be a very important part of what we do. It's about us going to work and doing it together.''
