Let’s face it: The Dallas Cowboys have been bad, thus far, in 2010. With losses to Washington, Chicago and Tennessee, any hope of a playoff appearance is dwindling, and folks around the Metroplex are on the verge of either panicking, or giving up all hope and just watching the Texas Rangers (who, we might add, are awesome, *claw).
But that doesn’t mean the team has lost much in the way of popularity.
According to a recent poll by Harris Interactive, the Dallas Cowboys are still the most popular team in football, beating out seemingly better teams like the New York Jets, the New England Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts.
The poll asked 2,620 adults “who follow professional football” to name their two favorite NFL teams, and, for the fourth time in as many years, the Cowboys came out on top. Now, this could mean that Cowboys fans are very loyal, and willing to look past the shoddy, disappointing play of the last few years; or it could mean that a lot of people are masochists at heart. At any rate, we suppose it’s nice to be popular.
So the Cowboys can triumph in that, no matter how poorly they play, no matter how many unnecessary mistakes they make, no matter how many chances they blow, a lot of people will be watching. The Super Bowl isn’t a popularity contest, but for Dallas’ sake, we kind of wish it was.
