Cowboys Hampered by Penalties on Sunday

Dallas committed a season-high nine penalties in the loss to the Broncos

One of the more telling stats from the Cowboys’ 51-48 loss to the Broncos’ on Sunday comes from the penalty column of the box score. Dallas had a season-high nine penalties for 81 yards. The Broncos had just five for 55 yards.

In a game that became a legitimate back-and-forth duel in the second half, the team could ill-afford to give the still-undefeated Broncos anything they didn’t earn. But alas, here are the Cowboys at 2-3 going into a Week Six Sunday Night matchup with the Redskins.

Penalties are certainly important in a game like this,” Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said, per ESPN Dallas. “Really, in any game, but particularly in a game like this. You’re trying to limit their opportunities as much as [you] can. You don’t want to give them easy chances, and we knew our penalties, we’re helping them. They don’t need any help on offense. They’re pretty damn good.”
