Cowboys Give Randy Gregory No. 94

The no. 94 jersey was last worn by Cowboys all-time sacks leader DeMarcus Ware

When the Dallas Cowboys selected Dez Bryant with the 24th overall pick in 2010, they made clear that their expectations for Bryant were sky-high when they gave him--quite publicly--jersey No. 88, the number worn previously by two Hall of Famers, Drew Pearson and Michael Irvin.

Five years later, it seems they’ve done much the same with second round pick Randy Gregory. We found out this week that Gregory will wear No. 94, most recently worn by DeMarcus Ware, a future Hall of Famer and the Cowboys all-time sack leader. During the golden years of the 1990s, the number was worn by Charles Haley, who will be inducted into the Hall of Fame this fall (and who publicly applauded the selection of Gregory after the draft).

Suffice to say the expectations are up there for Gregory, and Gregory understands that.

I’ve had a lot of success getting to the quarterback,” Gregory said, per ESPN Dallas. “I think I’m athletic enough to do different things, but they brought me in here to get to the quarterback and stop the run. So that’s what I’m going to do, and they’re going to help me do that.”
