Cowboys Defeat Colts 42-7, Win NFC East

The Cowboys will go to the playoffs for the first time in five years

With a division championship and a playoff berth on the line, the Dallas Cowboys defeated the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday night by a final of 42-7, on the back of a huge performance from Tony Romo.

Romo hit Terrance Williams for nine yards for his first touchdown, to cap a 15-play, 80-yard march on the Cowboys’ first drive. On the first play after an unsuccessful fake punt by Indianapolis on their first offensive possession, he hit Dez Bryant on a 19-yard touchdown and, early in the second quarter, found Cole Beasley on a 24-yard catch and run that resulted in yet another score.

Romo finished 18 of 20 passing for 218 yards and four touchdowns. Witten led the team in receiving with 90 yards and the touchdown on seven catches and Bryant added 73 yards and a score on five grabs.

DeMarco Murray, who played with that broken bone in his hand, added the fourth Cowboys touchdown of the first half with a one-yard run. After JJ Wilcox intercepted Andrew Luck in the end zone, Dallas finished the half with a 28-0 lead. The injured Murray finished with 58 yards and the score on 22 carries.

The Cowboys kept pouring it on after intermission.

Romo hit Jason Witten for a 25-yard touchdown in the third quarter, before he was pulled. His replacement, Brandon Weeden, then found Williams for a 43-yard strike in the fourth, to extend the Dallas lead to 42-0.

The Colts finally found the scoreboard with just over five minutes in the final frame, after Colts’ starter Andrew Luck was pulled, when backup quarterback Matt Hasselbeck hit Zurlon Tipton for a one-yard touchdown pass.

Dallas won by a final of 42-7, and in doing so secured the NFC East Championship. They’ll go to the playoffs for the first time since 2009.

At 11-4, Dallas will face the Redskins in Landover, MD next week.
