Church on 2013: “It Definitely Bothers Me”

Barry Church led a bad Cowboys defense in tackles with 135 last year

Cowboys safety Barry Church was among the better players on the defensive side of the ball in 2013, but that isn’t saying a whole lot, considering the year that unit had.

In his first full season as starter--he had the job going into 2012 too, but his season was cut short by a torn achilles--Church led the team in tackles with 135. But the defense finished dead last in the league, and had its worst statistical season in the 54-year history of the franchise.

The memories of last season still bother Church.

It definitely bothers us,” Church said, per ESPN Dallas. “I’m speaking for myself, but it definitely bothers me. But there’s nothing we can really say or prove different. We were 32nd in the league and we weren’t that good on the defensive side of the ball. This year, the only way we can counter that is by playing good and becoming one of the better teams in the league at taking the ball away and against the run and the pass.”
