Byron Jones Draws Praise for Work Against Giants

Dallas Cowboys rookie defensive back Byron Jones put together a nice performance in the team’s 27-20 loss to the Giants, drawing praise from head coach Jason Garrett for his work both at corner and at free safety. But he’s still looking for his first career interception.

Jones made a diving play on a ball in the second quarter that at first looked like it had hit his foot and popped into the air, a live ball. He then dove under it and came up with what would have been a pick--if replay didn’t clearly show that it actually hit the ground before it hit Jones’ foot.

“It was a close one. Real close,” Jones said, per the Dallas Morning News. “I thought it hit my foot, but the replay shows that they got the call right. I thought for sure I had my first interception. I was pretty happy.”

Jones had to settle for seven tackles and a pair of pass breakups.

“You see his athleticism a lot," Garrett said. "You see it when he's deep but you also see it when he's down around the ball. Made some good tackles on some of the short passes they made [Sunday]. He's a good football player and he's getting better.”
