Buehler Joins Dubious Club

With a missed extra point attempt against Arizona Sunday, Cowboys’ kicker David Buehler joined a dubious club, as just the second kicker in the league with two missed extra point tries on the season. Shayne Graham, of the New England Patriots, is the other.

Buehler’s miss came after the Dallas Cowboys took their first lead of the evening, turning what would have been a three-point lead into a two-point lead. This, of course, gave Arizona the opportunity to win the game, rather than tie it, with a field goal--as Jay Feely demonstrated with his game-winning 48-yarder.

Dallas opted against bringing in a veteran kicker this offseason, more or less handing the job to Buehler long before the team played its first preseason game. The experiment has yielded mixed results.

He (Buehler) has made some big kicks and proved that he is a quality kick-off guy,” interim head coach Jason Garrett said, per the Dallas Morning News. “But one of the things you want from a kicker is consistency. He has been a fairly consistent kicker at times, and at other times he has missed some kicks that he is capable of making.”
