Earlier this month, Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones told the media that the team’s plan was to have defensive end Anthony Spencer come off the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) List before the season begins, in order to avoid having him ruled ineligible for the first six weeks of the year.
Unsurprisingly, Spencer is in lock-step with this plan, and says his rehab has been going well.
“Yeah, I want to be out on the field as soon as possible, and PUP will put me out six weeks,” Spencer told the team’s website. “I haven’t plateaued yet. My body’s responding well to the things that we’re doing, so we’re just going to continue to do them.”
Last year Spencer appeared in all of one game, in September, and recorded two tackles before his season was cut short due to microfracture surgery on his knee--the procedure he’s still working back from, almost a year later.
“They just said we’ll keep evaluating and see where we are,” Spencer said. “Keep doing the things we’ve been doing and adding a little bit more, a little bit more, and changing what we do with the change of direction, more my body weight, a little bit more resistance. We’re just doing a bunch of different things to see how it reacts.”
