Brooking Undergoes Knee Surgery, May Miss OTAs

Dallas Cowboys' inside linebacker Keith Brooking underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee recently, and will not be present when the team opens their OTAs next week.

Per the Dallas Morning News, it is unclear whether Brooking will be available for the second series of organized team activities in mid-June, but, with his experience, the team is not concerned with his absence.

Brooking is a 12-year veteran of the league, who reinvented himself somewhat last season as the vocal and emotional leader of the Dallas defense.

Brooking was credited with 106 tackles in 2009 (75 solo), and three sacks.

The absence of the veteran may present an opportunity, not just for second round selection Sean Lee, but "redshirt" 2009 draft pick Jason Williams, as well. Williams's development was hindered last season by a knee injury, and he saw limited action over five games, after being selected in the third round (Dallas's first pick in 2009).
