Brooking Hopes To Return Next Week

Injured veteran linebacker Keith Brooking hopes to return to practice next Tuesday, and play in the team’s third preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings on August 25. Brooking has been out since the first practice of training camp, during which he pulled a hamstring while running after an interception.

Brooking told reporters on Tuesday that the injury has improved.

"A little tight," Brooking said, per ESPN Dallas. "It's getting better."

In Brooking’s place, second-year pro Sean Lee has been taking reps with the first team opposite Bradie James, and in doing so, has impressed fans and coaches to the point of wondering whether Lee deserves the starting spot. However, head coach Jason Garrett recently reaffirmed Brooking’s role with the team.

So whether Lee sees more reps or not in 2011--and it seems pretty much certain that he will--it appears that the Cowboys’ linebacking corps in week one against the Jets will be the familiar foursome of Ware, James, Brooking and Spencer.
