Brandon Carr “Taken Aback” By Ryan Firing

Rob Ryan was fired as the Cowboys defensive coordinator on Tuesday night

If you were surprised by the sudden firing of Rob Ryan as the Cowboys defensive coordinator on Tuesday night, you’re not alone. In fact, it seems as though Rob Ryan’s players themselves were left somewhat shocked by the decision to send Ryan packing with a year left on his contract.

I’m trying to gather my thoughts,” cornerback Brandon Carr told ESPN Radio, via the Dallas Morning News, adding that he was “taken aback” by Tuesday’s announcement.

Carr, who came to Dallas as a free agent from Kansas City prior to last season, said that in 2012, Ryan had done what he could to simplify his scheme as he attempted to deal with a half dozen season-ending injuries to his unit, five of which befell starters.

“We were (comfortable),” Carr said. “We were on board with it. We gave him our input as far as what we wanted in the gameplan. He tried his best to compromise and make those things work so we could play fast and be at our best on Sundays.”
