Chris Boniol was a really good kicker for the Dallas Cowboys.
In his three seasons as the Cowboys' kicker, including the 1995 Super Bowl year, Boniol combined to convert 81 of his 93 field goal attempts and led the league in percentage in 1995, when he 27-of-28.
Now, he's the Cowboys' kicking coach and has a pretty good pupil in Dan Bailey. But that relationship could be limbo now with the departure of Joe DeCamillis, the Cowboys' special teams coach who left to take the same job with the Chicago Bears.
Bailey had a great 2012 — reminiscent of his coach's 1995 season — when he made 29 of his 31 field goal attempts with a long of 51 yards and didn't miss an extra point.
As ESPN Dallas reported, Boniol has yet to receive a contract renewal, and in this time of turmoil and an uncomfortable environment at Valley Ranch, he's probably sweating a bit. Not sure why Jerry Jones would want to part ways with Boniol, who's proven he can coach, but it is probably an instance of waiting to see who the new special teams coach is and let him make that decision.
