The NFL’s vice president of officiating and Dallas Cowboys fans’ favorite person Dean Blandino took some time to discuss the always discussable catch rules—which remain so that no one seems to be sure what a catch is or isn’t—prior to the Pro Bowl, and said the league is happy with the rules the way they are.
"We think that the rule is in a good place right now. I really think it's just communicating the rule and educating," Blandino told Will Brinson of CBS Sports. "There's a subjective element to the rule so there are always going to be those plays where we debate [what happened]."
Of course, the fact that Roger Goodell went to the trouble of putting together a catch committee to revisit the catch rules this offseason would seem to suggest that major changes are coming, but Blandino says that might not be the case.
In fact, it probably won’t.
"Maybe there's another tweak," Blandino said. "But I don't anticipate any major changes."
