Ben Bass Hoping to Hang Around

Bass came out of nowhere to win a job on the Dallas practice squad last year

Thanks to a wave of injuries to the defensive line and an impressive showing in offseason workouts, defensive tackle Ben Bass was able to parlay a “tryout player” contract with Dallas into an invite to training camp and, eventually, a job on the Cowboys’ practice squad. From there, he was activated for a couple of games before an ankle injury cut his unlikely rookie season short.

Bass was just as impressive, if not more impressive, this offseason.

I felt like it was the same thing as last year,” Bass said, per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “I just did it a little better.”

The showing in OTAs and mini-camp has done nothing but good things for Bass’s confidence, but he’s not deluding himself. Going into his second year, Bass knows he still has a lot to prove.

“I try my best not to carry over one practice to another,” he said. “You don’t want to seem cocky. You just want to be confident out there. So I try to take one practice and leave it behind me.”
