Going back about seven years, I vividly remember covering a Little Elm high school football game and seeing Cole Beasley basically provide a one-man show as the Lobos' quarterback for his head coach, and father, Mike.
Cole Beasley was a good high school quarterback, but I never thought, wow, that guy is going to play college football, and of course, never would've even began to imagine him someday playing in the NFL.
Now, he is, and he's starting to become pretty good. Of course, the road to his success included a position change, as he was a standout wide receiver for SMU, when June Jones still cared and the Mustangs were competitive.
Over his past seven games for the Dallas Cowboys, Beasley has been a guy that you can have some confidence in, and despite not finding the end zone on Sunday, he might have put together his most impressive game in the Cowboys' 24-20 Wild Card win over Detroit.
Over the last six games of the regular season, Beasley averaged 46 yards per game and scored four times, including two touchdowns in the win over the Bears. On Sunday in his postseason debut, Beasley caught four balls for 63 yards, which was three yards shy of his season-high. His catch that was followed by an illegal hit to the head by a Lions defender was what stood out, though.
Beasley bounced right back up, clapping and gladly taking the 15-yard penalty tacked on to his gain, and his head coach took notice.
"I thought the play he made yesterday where he runs inside and gets hit in the head, the way he bounces back up and is ready to go again, tells you a lot about who he is," Jason Garrett said in his weekly press conference on Monday. "But we’ve known about who he is for a long time, he’s a damn good player.”
