Barry Church Has Broken Nose

Church suffered the injury in the first quarter of Sunday's loss

Cowboys safety Barry Church left Cowboys Stadium on Sunday evening, and played most of Sunday’s 51-48 loss to the Broncos, with his nose broken in two places.

Church suffered the injury on the second defensive play of the game, when he came up and laid a hit on Denver’s Wes Welker, jarring the ball out of his hands for an incompletion. But while delivering the blow, Church’s helmet slipped down on his face, thus the injury.

After leaving the field, Church had X-rays taken but returned for the rest of the game.

I could breathe a little bit,” Church said, per the Dallas Morning News. “But majority of the game, I had to breathe through my mouth.”

Church told reporters after the game that he expects to be available for next week’s Sunday Night Football matchup with the Redskins.

“I will be back next week,” Church said.
