Barry Church Adjusts to Being an “Old Guy”

Granted, Church is only 26 years old

Cowboys safety Barry Church is in kind of a weird position for a 26-year-old: That of the "old guy."

Of course, he’s only an old guy in the context of the Cowboys secondary that is very, very young.

Joining Church in the so-called “old guys” club are Orlando Scandrick, 27, and Brandon Carr who enters the 2014 season at the ripe old age of 28. The other of the Cowboys’ big three corners, Morris Claiborne, is still just 24, and the frontrunner for the safety spot opposite Church at this point is JJ Wilcox, a 23-year-old league sophomore.

You never want to get too complacent or take things for granted,” Church said of having a more established role with the team, per ESPN Dallas. “I feel like I have a role on this team now, especially at the safety crew because I’m one of the oldest guys out there in the secondary, me and Orlando and Brandon Carr. It’s a different role coming in being one of the old guys.”
