At 52, Herschel Walker Says He Can Still Play in NFL

The last time Walker took a snap in the NFL, Bill Clinton was president

Anyone who’s seen Herschel Walker recently knows the former Dallas Cowboys running back hasn’t let himself go since football.

But to say he could still play in the NFL would be a huge stretch, a delusion, and that’s putting it lightly. Right?

Well, not according to the 52-year-old himself.

I can play in the NFL today,” Walker told USA TODAY Sports. “I couldn’t take every snap. But running backs nowadays don’t play every down. Now they send in the choir section. Physically, I can still do it.”

The last time Walker played professional football, Bill Clinton was president. That was 1997, the final of two seasons in his second stint with the Cowboys. Since then, he’s kept busy with a number of business ventures here in North Texas. Oh yeah, and there was his mixed martial arts career.

Walker last fought in 2011 at age 48.

“Hey, I’m 2-0,” he said.
