As Season Approaches, Buehler's Confidence Soars

David Buehler has yet to attempt a field goal in a regular season, let alone a post season NFL game, but after going 10 for 11 on preseason attempts, the USC product is entering 2010 with confidence soaring.

Buehler had a red letter performance in last Thursday’s exhibition finale, a 27-25 win over Miami, going a perfect 4 for 4 on attempts of 51, 45, 40 and 31 yards. His 51-yarder, according to experts, would have been good from 74 yards out; his 31-yarder won the game for Dallas as time expired. Buehler was understandably encouraged by his performance.

"It's good I was able to show [that I could make big kicks]," Buehler said Monday, per ESPN Dallas. "I showed them a lot in practice by putting the ball through the uprights.

"I know what to expect on Sundays. It does help going though that year, I've already been though so I know what to expect. I've played [on FedEx Field] and I'm going to back to what I know and getting back to that routine."

For owner and general manager Jerry Jones, Buehler’s perfect night was a sign that, perhaps, he was right in putting all his stock in the second-year, former kick-off specialist, while letting more proven options at kicker come and pass in free agency. Obviously, it’s a little early to make any judgment; but for now, the team is pleased as punch with their situation at kicker.

"It was worth the ballgame for us to see him step up there and make those kicks,” Jones said. “We've got us a kicker."
